Does the security fencing not form part of the planning application?

Security fencing is not included as part of our planning application submitted to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, but is subject to permitted development rights granted by parliament set out in law.

We are still awaiting the decision on the planning application, as we have recently communicated via our website and the monthly newsletter.

But with work on the first phase of the project continuing and following unforeseen circumstances, we are keen to progress with the installation of the required security fencing as soon as possible.

What height will the fencing be?

Our independent team which assess and sign off our security arrangements recommended a three-metre high fence should be used.

We know the fence height was a concern and as the site is located in a residential area, we are keen to work with you to agree a solution.

Taking into account the feedback we have received we have discussed your concerns with our external security experts.

Although most security measures are dictated to us, they have agreed to us reducing the recommended height to 2.4 metres.

Why does this particular type of fencing need to be used?

All water treatment works across the country must legally comply to certain security standards.

We have discussed your concerns about the type of fencing to be used with our independent company who must sign off our security arrangements. The experts have continued to stipulate the type of fencing we are able to use for security reasons for the section of fence in front of the temporary works in the first phase of the project.

There will also be fencing required up to and including the front gate. For consistency, we are looking to use the same style as that enclosing the construction in the first phase, although this section will not require solid panelling behind.

Can you not build a brick wall?

Our security experts have told us we cannot build a brick wall due to the increased risks of climbing and graffiti. We are sorry that we cannot offer an alternative type of fencing.

Why will there not be security fencing around the full site perimeter?

Each building has different security ratings and therefore there are different security measures and requirements in place.

Further security assessments will be undertaken, as required, within the second phase of the project, which is subject to planning approval.
