While we’ve been busy developing our proposals for Broad Oak Water, there is still a great deal of work and several major milestones that we need to achieve, before arriving at an operational reservoir.
Initially, we’ll be submitting an ‘outline planning application’ to the relevant Local Planning Authorities (Canterbury City Council, Dover District Council and Thanet District Council) to seek approval for our plans, before a contractor comes on board to fully design, build, finance, operate and maintain Broad Oak Water.
Due to its significance, Broad Oak Water has also been designated as a Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development, or ‘RAPID’, project, which means it will need to pass through a series of assessments, overseen by a consortium of regulatory bodies, including Ofwat, the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate.
An indicative timeline for these steps can be seen above or click here to open. However, it is normal for these timescales to evolve, as the project is delivered.
